Book Review : Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss

November 26, 2018 By Joni Kinney Leave a Comment

I had asked some of my Twitter fans recently what book I should read next, and one of the recommendations was Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. If you are interested, you can purchase this book on Amazon or any other major book company.

Summary of Never Split the Difference

Come and read what we think about Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss - Book Review #bookreview #neversplit #negotiation #negotiate #reallife #FBI #chrisvoss

Chris Voss who was an FBI negotiator who wrote Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if your life depends on it. You learn about his past successes and failures and how negotiators use different practices to get hostage situations resolved. By learning what doesn’t work, we can look at the essence of what it takes to have excellent negotiation skills and how to apply that to every negotiation situation you have.

Not only do we learn about what is successful, but we learn how to negotiate better based on what failed. What is great is that we don’t have to be the ones who failed to learn what works. After all, If these strategies work for the FBI, they should work for each of us as well.

Real Life Examples

What I loved most about Never Split the Difference was that there were many practical examples of what you can do in your day to day life to negotiate things to your advantage. These examples will help me apply what I learned throughout the book in my day to day interactions.

Within this book you will find examples of rent negotiation, salary, purchasing a house and typical relationship negotiations. Each of these concepts is easy to understand and practical to apply.

Another thing I really liked was this book was easy to read at approximately 160 pages. Therefore, this book only took me a couple of days to finish.

Conclusion:

In Conclusion, I would recommend that anyone who negotiates (and that’s all of us) read this book. Not only will you find some insightful stories, but you will also find the book easy to understand. Additionally, all of the concepts taught can be applied to real life, everyday situations. I’ve seen myself using some of these strategies at work without even trying.
