15 Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Disney World Vacation
Plan – There are many things to do in Disney World and unless you are spending many many days you won’t be able to do everything. Planning is critical for ensuring you have the best vacation, but I don’t mean planning every minute. Plan the big things. The must-do list for each member of your party. For my family we typically pick 3 must do things per person per day.
My Disney Experience App – If you haven’t already you are going to want to go ahead and download this app. This is a lifesaver, I’m not even kidding… you need to help ensure you aren’t waiting in lines forever, eating, and knowing show times.
Make Dining Reservations – Disney lets you make reservations if you are staying on the property 60 days in advance of your trip. Secure your hard-to-get reservations first such as character dining. Check out our experience with meeting Snow White.
Disney Genie+ Service – Genie+ has 3 levels.
- The first is the tip board which is free in the app. This will tell you to wait times and if lightning lanes are available. You can also review dining options and even make last-minute reservations.
- The second level of this service is what most people think of when they think about Genie+, this is a pay-per-day service that allows you to schedule lightning lane’s for popular attractions and rides. For large parties this can get expensive so make sure you maximize it’s usage if you do purchase it.
- The third level is lightening lanes that you purchase per ride. This is yet another additional fee for very popular rides such as Tron, or 7 Dwarfs Mine Trane, etc. You can purchase 2 of these per day and it gives you a time you can return without going through virtual queues or using your other lightening lane reservations. There are a limited number of rides that have these and they are an extra charge.
Mobile Order Food – You are going to need to eat, but don’t spend tons of time in lines. Use your app and mobile order food so you can pick it up and not waste time in line.
Special Events – Know when special events are happening such as Mickey’s Christmas Party and use these to your advantage.
Arrive Early and Rope Drop – If you are staying on Disney property another way you can make sure you have the perfect Disney World vacation is arriving early and using the rope drop hours. Rope drop is typically the first hour or two of the park opening which allows you to ride popular rides without long wait times.
