Millennium Park – An Exciting Must See to Believe FREE Activity!

January 20, 2023 By Joni Kinney Leave a Comment

Are you seeking an exciting, free activity that won’t break the bank? Look no further than Millennium Park in Chicago! One of the most popular tourist destinations in Chicago, this incredible park is a great spot to escape from your hectic everyday routine and have fun. With over 25 acres of public gardens, art installations, sculptures, and performance venues—it’s possible to find something for everyone at Millennium Park.

What is there to do in Millennium Park?

Are you seeking an exciting, free activity that won’t break the bank? Look no further than Millennium Park in Chicago! One of the most popular tourist destinations in Chicago, this incredible park is a great spot to escape from your hectic everyday routine and have fun.

There are almost too many activities to mention going on at this location. It’s no surprise to those that have visited why it’s the 2nd most visited tourist attraction in Chicago. Filled with events and activities, there is always something fun to see and do. With that said, there are always a few MUST-see activities.

  • First up is the “Bean,” which isn’t a bean. Cloud gate is inspired by liquid mercury and is regularly power washed to keep its shine.
  • Second, on my list is the Crown Fountain. This fountain features the faces of the people of Chicago and is a great place to cool off the kids.
  • Third, up is Lurie Garden. Now in full disclosure, I love botanical gardens and places you can leisurely walk through pretty flowers.
  • My Fourth MUST-do activity is checking out any free entertainment from the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. I’ve seen some cool concerts featuring seats and lawn sitting areas. It’s fun to hear bands, concerts, or plays being performed.

So how much does all this cost?

I’m happy to report the park is FREE! Millenium park is open from 6 am to 11 pm daily. The welcome center is open from 9 am to 5 pm. The park sometimes has to close unexpectedly, so it’s always a good idea to check them on Social Media before heading out.

So how do you get there?

Millennium Park is located in the Loop neighborhood of Chicago and is an easy walk from public transportation. If you are driving there are a number of parking lots and garages within easy walking distance. However, if you are staying downtown your best bet is to walk. Refer to your local map to find your fastest option.

The park can be found in the northwest corner of Chicago’s Grant Park. The address is 201 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60602.

What else can you do in Chicago?

  • Miller’s Pub – A Restaurant Dinning Experience in Chicago
  • Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago
  • The Angry Octopus – A Pleasant Surprise

Wrapping UP!

There is a LOT to do when visiting Millennium Park, and it is the perfect place to spend a day if you’re looking for free, exciting activities. Check out their events calendar if you want to visit something in particular, but things are always going on. With so much to see and do, this incredible park has something for everyone.

If you’re ready to escape your daily routine and explore everything that Millennium Park has to offer, check out Expedia and the great deals you can get! Book your trip today!

International Mothers Day around the World

April 2, 2019 By Joni Kinney Leave a Comment

Celebration Dates

International Mothers Day is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday in May. Every year the date changes, but it’s always celebrated the same weekend in May. Mothers Day is celebrated around the world in different countries at different times of the year.

However many countries including Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, India, China, and Japan all celebrate on the same date. The very first Mother’s day service was observed back in 1908. That’s a whole lot of years of love for mom.

International Mothers Day is among the top 10 celebrated holidays. I mean it is probably not that surprising since we all owe our mom’s something for us being here.

5 Frugal Steps to Save Money on Clothes

February 19, 2019 By Joni Kinney Leave a Comment

Clothing is a necessity, but you don’t have to spend a lot to look good. Most people I know who have children have found ways or try to find ways to save money on clothes. Here are some of my favorite tips that everyone can use to help make this an area budget friendly.

If you need help saving money in other areas of your budget check out this article on 5 useful ways to save money on utilities.

Use resale shops to make purchases

Thrift shops or resale shops are great places to pick up bargains. Many people take things to these stores so that they can get credit. These credits can often be used to purchase items from the store or can be turned into cash. Every store has its own policies, but this makes thrift stores great places to pick up new wardrobe pieces.

Additionally, because their items are continually turning over, you can check several times a week and may have many things to choose from. Check for sales or when they run specials. Many thrift stores will run monthly or weekend specials that will help you save even more.

Sell older items

If you have clothes you are no longer wearing, sell them. This is a great way to save money on clothes because you can then use the money you earn to purchase new items. Using the money from your older clothing items helps ensure you continuously have a friendly clothing budget.

One of the best ways to clean out your clothing is to follow the Marie Kondo Cleaning method. She will teach you how to decide what you need to keep, as well as how to organize your items.

Buy items on clearance

When you do have to purchase something new find the clearance racks. Many people shop the clearance racks to get great deals and help you save money on clothing. Don’t forget the online clearance sections of your favorite stores too. Just because you are not in a physical store doesn’t mean you can’t find great deals.

Staple Pieces

Basic tank tops, athletic wear and basic pants do not need to be a designer. No one is going to notice if your tank top you see about two inches of is from Target. Use in-store specials and sales to maximize savings on these staple pieces.

If you are really looking to save money on clothes, skip the fancy athletic wear all together. Your work out clothes do not need to be fancy, just get what means your minimum needs. For many people that is shorts and a decent fitting tank top.

Make a list

Treat clothes shopping like you would any other shopping adventure. Start with an agenda. What are the basics you need to purchase? You may find an awesome pair of jeans, but if you already have 30 pairs at home, you are not wearing, skip that item and purchase what you need.

You are not saving money on clothes just because you bought something on sale. Like my husband always tells me we aren’t saving money by buying things we don’t need.
